This is an excellent debut novel by Christian White. He has managed to take the tale of a missing, abducted child and put a new spin on it.

Thirty year old Kim Leamy is living in Melbourne, teaching photography when she is approached by an American man who tells her he thinks she is Sammy Went, abducted as a two year old child twenty eight years ago from a small town in Kentucky. At first she brushes him off, but he later comes back with evidence that makes her start questioning her own origins and drives her to Kentucky to find out the truth. What she finds are some dysfunctional families and a pentecostal cult that worships with snakes.

Told in two streams, Then and Now, the days following Sammy's disappearance and Kim's current investigation lead her to discover what happened to Sammy in a twist I didn't see coming. Christian White serves up a dark and menacing background to this story of a missing child and the final chapters are tense and very scary

The Nowhere Child Christian White 9781925584523 Books Reviews

A well developed story that is easy to follow. I enjoyed reading it's twists and turns and the surprise ending.
The story has a fantastic pace that builds as the story goes, which keeps you hooked right to the end. Not only the mystery of Sammy went, but all the varying personalities will keep you wondering to the end, what the heck happened?
What a great read and highly recommended.
Sure knows how to keep your interest. I liked the way he alternated every other chapter from then to now and kept each chapter short and to the point.
New author that I will read again.
The book has a great story arc, interesting multi-dimensional characters and issues that are going to be increasingly dealt with in this day and age of genetic testing and learning that what we took as gospel truth regarding our family relationships may not always be so. Good book to prompt discussions on these types of issues. Highly recommend.
Good debut novel. The pace was kind of slow for my taste, also the twist was a little far fetched, but overall I enjoyed reading it and didn’t lose interest. I did like how the chapters alternated from present day to the past; that was a very effective structure for telling the story. Made me check every night that the doors were locked before I went to bed.
I enjoyed this book so much. It gripped me from the beginning, and I was enthralled all the way through.
I didn’t give it five stars for a couple reasons, an incident at the beginning of the book, and the quickness of the ending. I would have liked a little more time at the end of the book with some of the characters. It seemed to end quickly. I don’t want to say too much, I’m afraid I would end up giving spoilers.
With that said, I absolutely loved this book. There some twists and turns, the story had heart, and it was beautifully written. I read it through in one day, I could not put it down. I look forward to the next book from this author.
An edge of the seat read.
Brilliantly crafted, the story floats seamlessly between the past and the present - with twists and turns that are at times predictable interspersed with moments of mind-numbing surprise - this book delivers to the last page. The ending that tied the whole plotline together was a master-stroke and was one I never saw coming. The characters are well drawn and totally believable, and run the whole gamut of the human sprectrum.
I read it from beginning to end and know it will be a book I'll dip into many times more.
A great book I'd recommend to anyone who likes mystery, suspense and a little crime thrown in, but not in a gruesome way.
